Why OMS?

Jeremy and I have been asked several times why we decided to go with One Mission Society. The simple answer would be to say because OMS fit us and that is true. But, I suppose it would be best if I were a little more specific.

Jeremy grew up knowing about OMS because it was the agency that the Evangelical Methodist Church (his home denomination) used to send their missionaries. My first experience with them was on our trip to Mexico City in 2010. On that trip we stayed with two OMS missionaries and visited several ministries they were involved with including a seminary and a church plant. Following the trip we met with a recruiter to simply share how the trip went.

Our next trip with OMS was to Medellin, Colombia. Our host missionaries on that trip were absolutely awesome. We spent hours talking with them about the application, preparation and funding process. That trip was the confirmation we needed to further pursue a full-time mission assignment.

So, why OMS? Here we go:

Faith-based Funding: The thought of fundraising for our ministry and personal needs is daunting. But, we know that our God is bigger than any amount of money we may have to raise. We will rely on faith alone as we seek the support of fellow believers and members of Christ's body.

Theology: It was very important that we agreed with the theology of the agency we chose. Even though OMS is interdenominational they hold to a theology that is in agreement with our own. Click here to read the OMS articles of faith.

Methodology: OMS has a four-fold focus that has proven successful in discipling new believers and nurturing new churches. Those four-core values are, "intentional evangelism, church planting, training leaders, and strategic partnerships."

Holistic Ministry: OMS strives to be holistic in their ministry. They strive to care for the whole person. The body, mind and soul. OMS has supported churches, hospitals, schools, anti-traffiking and many other forms of ministry.

Support: It has been over 110 years since OMS began as The Oriental Mission Society. Now as One Mission Society, OMS serves in Africa, Asia, The Caribbean, Latin America and Europe. Missionaries are located around the world and a great team of workers are located at headquarters who have already shown their support and excitement as we move forward with our journey.

So there you have it - our reasoning for One Mission Society. We believe in the mission of the organization and it's philosophy of ministry. God wanted us to get out of our comfort zone and rely on Him fully - that's the faith that He has called us to.
